NZ Employer Accreditation
Hiring skilled migrants can seem like a daunting task. I love helping employers fill important positions and give overseas workers a new life in New Zealand.
A specialist Immigration Lawyer, I’ve helped New Zealand employers across a range of industries to secure NZ work visas for their international talent. This includes a ‘Big Four’ accounting firm, one of New Zealand’s largest insurance companies, a leading New Zealand (and international) fashion brand as well as numerous smaller businesses including painting and construction companies, manufacturing businesses, consulting and accounting firms, retailers, restaurants and many more.
If you need assistance getting accredited or are looking to hire a skilled migrant, the easiest way to start is for us to have a conversation.
NZ Employer Accreditation
With few exceptions, all New Zealand employers seeking to recruit an overseas worker must hold an accreditation with Immigration New Zealand. I advise employers on their accreditation applications to Immigration New Zealand, helping them to get “accreditation ready”, preparing and lodging their accreditation applications, and advising them on compliance issues relating to their accreditations (accreditation requirements for employers are onerous and can lead to potentially serious problems if they are not complied with).
I also advise New Zealand employers on a range of compliance issues that can arise due to potential or actual breaches of the Immigration Act 2009 (e.g. employing an overseas worker without a valid visa).
The employer accreditation regime contains strict requirements and potential “fishhooks”, which are not always obvious, especially for the uninitiated. I can help you through these and make sure the process goes smoothly.
Accredited Employer Work Visas
For employers that hold an accreditation with Immigration New Zealand, I advise in relation to the following key steps in the Accredited Employer Work Visa process:
“Job Checks”: I help employers to ensure their employment documents and any advertising that has been undertaken in respect of the role(s) on offer meets with Immigration New Zealand’s strict requirements, so the Job Check phase is completed successfully and a “Job Token” can be issued by Immigration New Zealand in respect of the job(s).
“Applicant Checks” / Lodgement of Accredited Employer Work Visa applications: If a Job Check is approved by Immigration New Zealand, I prepare and lodge Accredited Employer Work Visa applications for overseas worker(s) so they can take up the position on offer with the NZ employer. This includes applications for any family members who wish to travel / remain with the overseas worker to / in New Zealand.
Specific Purpose Work Visas
This is a visa for people who need to come to NZ for a specific purpose or event, and for a specific period of time. It includes, for example, senior or specialist businesspeople on secondments, businesspeople wishing to undertake business activities in New Zealand, entertainment industry sector workers, sports players, professional coaches and specialist installers.
Working closely with the individual(s) and the NZ employer or supporting business or organisation, I help to identify a person’s potential eligibility to apply for a Specific Purpose Work Visa (and with multiple categories to choose from, it’s easy to be confused as to the correct one for your purpose), and then prepare and lodge comprehensive visa applications, giving the application the best chance of success.
